Prof. Dr. Ilona Buchem

Prof. Dr. Ilona Buchem is professor for Digital Media and Diversity, at Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Germany. Her courses focus on how digital media change current practices in education and business. In her research she explores how to design and apply digital media to support open learning, collaboration, creativity, diversity and inclusion. She specialises in open education, digital diversity, digital identities, online participation, online facilitation, mobile learning, ePortfolios and Personal Learning Environments. Ilona Buchem obtained her PhD in Educational Sciences at Humboldt University in Berlin. Her dissertation research was part of her work at Daimler AG, where she designed and evaluated technology-enhanced learning solutions. Ilona Buchem has an extensive experience in applying ePortfolios in education and leads the research project “Credit Points”, which is an ePortfolio based qualification programme for migrants and part of the federal IQ Network founded by the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education, the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the German Federal Employment Agency. The project "Credit Point" explores the possibilities of visualising and recognising competencies with Open Badges as part of the ePortfolio concept with Moodle and Mahara as underlying technologies. Ilona Buchem is member of the advisory board of the research project "Perspektive 2.0", the General Chair of the PLE Conference 2013 and the member of the E-Portfolio Initative Berlin/Brandenburg. Ilona Buchem co-authored a competency modelling specification (PAS 1093) at the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) in context of work-based learning and eLearning in enterprises.
